I have a client who runs eight physiotherapy clinics around Melbourne. You can see the before shot shows you their website and how it would look on an iPhone if the site was not optimised for mobile search. Although the site looks beautiful and has a great design, scanning or reading the content from an iPhone or another mobile device would be quite a challenge. Also navigating the site would be difficult.

If we go to one of the clinic pages we see that you would need to pinch the screen and expand it to try and find the phone number. So, trying to call or contact this business is quite a challenge with its non-mobile friendly website design.

If we have a look at the after shot we can see that we have designed it so that it is very easy to find the clinics. We have all the clinics listed on the home page. You just need to scroll the screen down and up to view the content. Now, probably the most important feature we have on our mobile websites is the “tap to call us” button. We make it very easy for people to contact businesses. And, in this case we have a “tap to call us button” on the bottom and top of each page. The goal is to improve conversions and make it very easy for prospects to contact this business. The drop down menu makes it very easy to go back to the homepage or to visit other pages.

Our mobile website also have a social share feature. This allows customers or prospects to share the mobile website with their social network via Facebook, Twitter, Google plus, LinkedIn and also by email.

If we go to another clinic page you will see we also integrate Google maps with the Find Us button. If you click on the  ”Find Us” button and you are on your iPhone  it will show where the clinic is and provide directions from your location with Google maps. That is very powerful.

The main point you want to take away from this is we make mobile websites that makes it very easy for prospects to contact you and to find you. Is Your Website Mobile Friendly? No?

Well, you better go mobile quickly. Check your analytics. You may find up to 30% of your visits are from mobile devices.

Hi! It is Nick Kemp here from Prime Niche Marketing and I am in analytics, in Google analytics looking at some one of my sites. And I wanted to show you why it is important for you to go mobile. Meaning you need to get a mobile friendly version of your site. So this is bit of a case study.

So I’m in audience and if we go down to mobile and overview I am going to show you the percentage of visitors to this site that are from mobile devices. So it is a whopping 27.90%, so it is almost 30%. So from the 3489 visits so far for the month, 973 have been by mobile devices.

Now if we go back just go back earlier in the year. Lets go back to April. That figure was still quite high, 17%. But over the course of five months we had an increase of 10% and so this is obviously likely, more than likely to increase. And I am certain from what Google has said and from other research I have studied, that by next year 50% of visitors to this site will be on mobile devices.

And now we can go in and see what mobile devices are been used and it is pretty much all Apple for people visiting this site with the iPhone and the iPad. So this is something you should do.  Go into your analytics and work out what percentage of visits are from mobile devices. And then you can establish whether or not you need a mobile website. And I’ll be betting that you would need one.

What’s Your Mobile Bounce Rate?

You can also have a look at bounce rate. Surprisingly, our bounce rates are not too bad for the iPhone. It should be lower or it shouldn’t be lower actually because our website is not optimized for mobile devices, which is kind of ironic. But I am in the process of doing that. But, you can see obviously with the iPad, it is a bigger screen, and  the current site obviously renders well and people don’t have a problem viewing site. But on the iPhone we are getting a higher bounce rate. If we have a look at the overall bounce rate, you can see it is about 10% lower.

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion on my iMac. And I am thrilled. I’m using the dictation feature right now as I speak. I have always been a terrible typist. But now, I don’t have to worry about typing. This is my first try at using dictation and I’m having no problems.

Having trouble finding profitable niche markets?

Niche marketing has never been easier thanks to Google’s keyword suggestion tool. Every time you type in the search box on Goole Web Search, Google’s algorithm predicts and displays search queries based on other users’ search activities. You can use this suggest feature to your advantage to discover niche markets.

Google has returned four popular suggestions that people on the Internet are typing in. This is gold! We have potentially discovered several profitable niche markets. ‘Get rid of acne’ Now that’s a very competitive niche, because it’s very profitable. A lot of people make money referring acne creams and natural treatments or alternative acne cures.

We can now research this niche and look for products to promote, study the top ranking sites, build a list of keywords and determine how competitive the niche is with a niche research tool like Market Samurai

You can repeat this process and just go through the alphabet and see what suggestions Google offers and build a list of potential niches to research

So what we wanna do is we basically go through the alphabet using this problem phrase. So if  we use letter B, we’ve got ‘belly fat’ , ‘black heads’.

 Get Rid Of

So I’m sure you’re getting an idea that we targeting really specific health problems here, and they are usually very good niches.

What you can do is you can build a list of niches. And then later on you can research them. You can see if there is any advertisers or any people referring products with affiliate sites and build up a list.

You can also use different words.  The word ‘cure’ for example, and see what we get. So we got ‘cure sore throat’, or ‘yeast infection’, ‘bad breath’, ‘constipation’.

Let’s have a look at a word ‘eliminate’. Again  we can see ‘eliminate acne’, ‘eliminate anxiety’, ‘acne scars’, ‘eliminate belly fat’.

 

Eliminate

Now that might be an interesting niche to target. You can see advertises here. I’m actually in Melbourne, Australia. So there is probably less ad showing than what you see in America.

Then if we go down to bottom of the page we can see more suggestions.  So ‘eliminate lower belly fat’, ‘eliminate belly fat naturally, ‘eliminate belly fat fast’.

So I think you can see here.  There is a list of affiliates sites. And click one of banners I’m sure we’ll be taken to a product page. Fat Loss 4 Idiots. I know this is quite popular product. Then you can do further research in this niche and find out if you can enter the niche. It might be too competitive. But if you do keyword research and further niche research you might be able to build a website, get it ranking and start making commissions.

There were two traps I fell into when I first started trying to make money online – not doing sufficient market research and not doing sufficient competitor research. After a few failures I got it through my think head how important it was to do lots of niche and keyword research before buying a domain name and putting up a WordPress site. However, it took several more failures before I realized and understood the importance of competitor research.

Making money online really comes down to two things – traffic and conversions. If you can’t beat your competitors in ranking, you won’t get a sufficient amount of traffic. And without a sufficient amount of traffic you won’t be able to test offers, track results and improve conversions.

You must take the time investigate the strength of your competitors once you have identified a profitable niche market. The temptation to get started quickly is hard to resist with the excitement you feel when you have found a niche that looks like it can make you money, but you have got to find out who you are up against and if you have the resources to beat them.

Market Samurai SEO

My favorite piece of software, Market Samurai, now makes competitor research very easy with their SEO module. What used to take many hours of tedious work using a number of tools now can be determined in a number of seconds.

Look at the screen shot below. Recently, I have been looking into the natural health niche. While I wouldn’t target the keyword “natural health” for a number of reasons, Market Samurai can tell me at a glance what I am up against if I wanted to try and rank for that keyword. You’ll notice a lot of red – this means a high level of competition. So I would stay away from this word.

If we look at the keyword “JLPT” , an acronym for Japanese Language Proficiency Test, a sub-niche in the Japanese Language niche you can see quite a bit of red, but a lower level of competition. I managed to get top page ranking for site of mine called JapaneseProficiencyPower.com (highlighted). I sell a test guide on how to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. JLPT gets 110,000 phrase match searched a month, some of which ends up on my site. As you can see my site has only 6 indexed pages, but I have had it rank on the top page of Google for a two years thanks to the help of Market Samurai.
